And yeah, we might wonder where Obama will get that $100 million, but hasn't he wasted a whole lot more money on situations where people were not injured, orphaned, emotionally crushed, and in imminent danger of disease, starvation, and murder? Let's be grateful he's at least trying to save the lives of babies with this one instead of killing more. (And if you voted for him...why are you surprised that he thinks government aid is the answer? He never made any secret of the fact that he thinks governments are the solution, and never contributors to the problem.)
If you want to make sure your money goes somewhere good, the following ministries have had people in Haiti for years already:
The ApParent Project cares for orphans, helps Haitian women earn their own incomes through jewelry-making, and spreads the Gospel. For those of you who know Jocelyn from Vicenza, she's down there with them right now. (There are tons of Americans down there--another reason not to begrudge any aid they can get.) If you want to throw a jewelry party (like an Arbonne or Partylite party, but for a good cause) let her know or let me know and I'll get you in touch with her.
Heartline Ministries also cares for orphans and helps women earn incomes through purse-making as well as offering prenatal care and all sorts of education. You can also do purse parties with their products. I have one of their bags and it's awesome. Info on their website.
You're probably already familiar with Compassion and World Vision, which both have excellent records for getting help to people in need. The WV national director in Haiti is a friend of my in-laws, and he's not a chump.
