Speaking of which...Government shutdown would mean soldiers stop getting paid--and here I thought that was just a crazy facebook rumor!
Written in Tears - “Answers, even if I could get them, would not dispel my grief; answers are a poor substitute for a daughter. It wasn’t an answer we were lacking, but a presence, a person. And you can’t replace a person with a doctrine. So the presence of God, while not the presence we were craving, was the right sort of response." And from the review: Who is this book for? This book is for all of us, whether we suffer or whether we know people who suffer (or both). It seems that this book affected Tim Challies very deeply. I'm going to read it to learn. I've been learning a lot recently (in theory) about how one helps friends who are doing through bad stuff, and looking back on how I didn't help people like Laura, who needed a babysitter and meals when her husband wound up in the infamous San Bortolo (at least other people provided them!). I was so clueless as a young, married, childless person. More on that later.
