The Pater Familias got Eva The Fox and the Hound for her birthday, and she is absolutely obsessed with it. And she just discovered that one of her 7,000 stuffed animals looks like Copper, so she walks around petting him and saying things like "Copper! You otay?" "I holder Copper doggie." She also decided to pose for pictures at the park yesterday:
It's funny--a lot of the non-Japanese people here on island seem to get gigs as models, and people have suggested that I look into that for Eva. A couple of months ago, I thought "Only if I needed the money to support my heroin habit, and anyway she would never cooperate with a photographer." But now it's just "Only if I needed the money for my heroin habit."
I came across two very different depictions of motherhood last week. Both beautifully written, striking, not shying away from the intensity of the thing. Both mothers of several. But with stunningly different views of it.
- There and Back Again - at Storybleed
- Why you should be kind to the mom on your flight - at The Gypsy Mama (not the most poetic title, but don't be fooled, it's well worth the read)
On a different note, if you follow soccer, you might know that we have a bit of an issue winning games south of the border. It probably doesn't help that even when we play north of the border, more people root for Mexico. But one MLS team finally scored the league's first win in Mexico.
And, finally, I missed the I Learned linkup at Click It Up a Notch this week, but I still have to share some of the shots I took with my brand spankin' new 50 mm that my parents gave me for my birthday!
