- Drowning Doesn't Look Like Drowning - This great article is educational as to what drowning looks like. Here's a shocking hint--it's not what Hollywood says it is! Please be aware of what's (quietly!) going on around you at the pool and beach this summer.
- Forgotten Faces: Japan's Comfort Women - The prevalence of the sex industry is a tragic legacy left anywhere the military touches, and the U.S. is not alone in this (but we really did a spectacular number on Thailand starting with Vietnam). These women were literally slaves, Koreans kidnapped for Japanese soldiers' "comfort" during WWII.
- On veterans' sense of entitlement: Hey, if your country is good enough to fight for, then it is good enough to come home to - I don't know the nitty gritty of what all veterans are entitled to after retirement/separation, but I do know all of us who stand to benefit from a veteran's retirement (especially those who, though we've sacrificed plenty, aren't actually employed by the Army) need to check our attitudes every once in a while.
- How To Capture a Carousel Image - I was eager to read this interview with my ex-neighbor Courtney (that sounds more dramatic than it is), only to discover that once again my lack of back-button focusing has come back to bite me. I really need to get on that!
Me elsewhere: I wrote about an awesome kids' album at The Perspicacious Listener.
Bonus: Guess what sort-of-delicious, deeply frozen, very messy food is Eva eating??
